Get to Know HVC’s Fall 2016 Clients

November is here and the fall 2016 semester is beginning to wind down. Students are going through the motions, counting down the days until Thanksgiving break, while professors are prepping for an influx of final projects and exams. But, the Happy Valley Communications staff is still in high gear and is working hard to finish the semester strong for its clients. Each semester, HVC takes on new clients ranging from small businesses in State College to innovative mobile apps. This semester was no exception. Get to know HVC’s amazing fall 2016 clients!

Global Entrepreneurship Week at Penn State

HVC has had a long standing working relationship with GEW at Penn State. It is an international, entrepreneurship initiative that takes place over the course of one week, annually. GEW was first held at Penn State in 2008 and since then has grown from 24 events in the span of one week to a record setting 124 events in 2015. GEW collaborates with several colleges within Penn State to coordinate various entrepreneurship-related events including: guest speakers, presentations, and activities. GEW at Penn State 2016 is right around the corner! Mark your calendars for November 13-17, 2016.

Barranquero Cafe

Founded in spring 2016, Barranquero Cafe is a Colombian coffee shop located in the heart of downtown State College. The cafe’s owners started the business with the goal of bringing a taste of Colombia to State College. Barranquero offers a variety of delicious Colombian coffees and finger foods including: empanadas, patacones, and arepas. Beyond this, its convenient downtown location makes it the perfect place for students and locals to stop in for a quick cup togo or to stay and work. Since its opening, Barranquero has quickly garnered attention from media outlets such as: Onward State,, Daily Coffee News, and WTAJ.

Founded by Penn State alumnus, Mike Black, in June 2016, ParkingBee is a mobile app and online website that allows people to sell and rent parking spaces from their phone or computer. Users can list their parking spot at their chosen price and designated time frame. The app/website provides a convenient way for people to find parking in State College, especially on busy weekends. It also gives people the ability to search for spots based on their most desired location and price. ParkingBee has received multiple media hits from outlets such as: The Huffington Post, The Daily Collegian, Centre Daily Times, and many more!

The Greater PA Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association is a national non-profit organization that strives to enhance care, research, and support to all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The association’s efforts include fundraising, volunteering, promoting, and donating. The Greater Pennsylvania Chapter serves 59 counties in western, central, and northeastern Pennsylvania and has offices in Pittsburgh, Erie, State College, Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre. The chapter recently hosted the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Medlar Field and raised over $94,000. The event received media coverage from and The Daily Collegian.

The Nittany Quill

Founded in 1984, The Nittany Quill is a fine stationery shop offering an assortment of greeting cards, boxed notes, journals, pens, framed calligraphy quotes, and more! Located in Burnham, Pa., In Home Services of Central PA is a locally-owned, state licensed, in-home care agency. The organization is certified in Medicare and its staff is made up of well-trained professionals who strive to “make life easier” for their clients. IHS of Central PA’s services include: in-home personal assistance, medication set-up and monitoring, housekeeping, meal prep, laundry services, running errands, etc. In addition to helping senior citizens, IHS’ services are beneficial to busy professionals and families.
